Director of Operations
Job Description
Taylor Energy is a growing, multi-location provider of heating oil, propane, and HVAC services across Connecticut, and we are hiring a Director of Operations to keep every location running the right way. This person is the President’s operational right hand: someone who leads the people side of the business, keeps each site consistent, and steps in wherever needed without being asked.
This is a full-time, field-present role for a decisive, people-savvy operator who wants to grow alongside a company that is actively building. You will have full functional authority across every location and team, and you will report directly to the President.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the President’s operational proxy across all locations, making decisions and solving problems
- Own the full HR function: hiring, onboarding, performance management, corrective action, and employee relations
- Maintain operational consistency across all current and future company locations
- Run cross-location department head meetings, set the agenda, and hold leaders to their commitments
- Own compliance and licensing across all locations, keeping every permit, license, and registration current
- Develop, document, and maintain SOPs for every core function
- Identify operational inefficiencies and lead structured process improvement initiatives
- Support acquisitions, expansions, and new location integrations as the company grows
Requirements
- 5+ years in an operations leadership role, with direct HR management responsibility preferred
- Demonstrated success managing multiple locations, teams, or sites at the same time
- Proven track record leading people through change, conflict, and accountability
- Working knowledge of CT and federal employment law and HR compliance documentation
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to track your own commitments and close the loop without reminders
- Direct, professional communicator with front-line staff and ownership alike
- Experience in trades, energy, HVAC, field services, or a comparable industry strongly preferred
Preferred
- Background in heating oil, propane, or HVAC service companies
- Familiarity with PHMSA, DOT, OSHA, or CT DEEP regulatory environments
- Experience supporting business acquisitions or new location integrations
- Proficiency with field service, dispatch, or route management software
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations Management, or equivalent hands-on experience
What We Offer
- Paid vacation, PTO, and paid holidays
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) with company matching
- Training and development
- Short-term disability
- Company-paid life insurance
- Veterans encouraged to apply
Pay: Competitive salary, based on experience
Job Type: Full-time, salaried exempt

- Full-time, salaried
- Regular travel between company locations required
